If you ever owned a PlayStation 2, chances are that you have probably at least heard of the Sly Cooper video game franchise. Sly Cooper was easily one of the most remarkable games ever to experience during the golden years of the PlayStation 2. Today, it is still a classic that has aged like fine wine and withstood the test of time as most of the PlayStation “greatest hits” games tend to do. The Sly Cooper video game series previously had 4 installments; with the latest game releasing on the PlayStation 3 back in 2013 (Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time). In 2021, there were rumors circulating in the gaming community that a fifth installment of the series was set to release in the near future. Well ladies and gentlemen, the rumors are true; Sly 5 is indeed in development.
Xbox Era co-founder Nick Baker claims that a longtime Sony executive confirmed Sly Cooper 5 has been in development since the summer of 2021 and he can also confirm the first gameplay reveal is taking place sometime around mid-2022. According to a new report via “AccountNTG”, Sly Cooper is returning via the PS5, and possibly the PS4 as well, depending on when it actually releases. It is unclear if the original series developer, Sucker Punch Productions, will develop it. Based on some reports and rumors about the Sucker Punch Team focusing on a Ghost of Tsushima sequel, if that’s any indicator, Sucker Punch certainly would not be returning to the Sly Cooper franchise and that likely means that an external studio will develop the latest Sly Cooper game in the series.
Sly 5 will be called: “Sly 5: The Return of Ancestors” (formerly known as Sly 5: Master of Thieves) and will release on September 25, 2022. As of right now, the storyline is somewhat unclear however; perhaps the most important news confirmed is that a new Sly video game is in development.
